Shipping has over the past two months entered troubled waters, despite the fact that the shipbuilding industry has never have been as busy as it is today.

Korea has traditionally been a home market for DNV, and there are now close to 400 DNV employees in the country dealing exclusively with the maritime market. In addition, around 20 new DNV employees will be coming on board soon.

DSME has built 100 of the approximately 500 VLCCs currently in operation worldwide. This translates into an impressive 20 per cent market share, making DSME the world’s number one builder of VLCCs.

Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) had delivered a total of 593 vessels as at June 30, 2008 and its order book stands at 231 vessels.
